About

ABOUT

Hi! I'm Lucy.

I am currently a second year honors student at the University of Georgia double majoring in public relations and political science with a certificate in public affairs communications. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and have had the privilege of studying subjects I am passionate about in Athens for the past two years. As a double major, I have found a valuable intersection between public relations and traditional political thought and am eager to explore how I can combine the two in a meaningful way. I currently write for UGA's Public Relations Student Society of America chapter, which has enabled me to build connections with both my peers and faculty members and explore media relations from a professional perspective. Furthermore, through courses like Reporting, Graphic Communications and Public Affairs Communications, I have  honed my skills as a creator and writer. Upon graduation I hope to work in government relations, campaign strategy or public affairs.

In addition to my work in each respective college on UGA's campus, I also serve as the Sisterhood Director for my sorority, which has allowed me to plan and execute various events that aim to strengthen member relations and create diverse member experiences.

Thanks for visiting my portfolio and getting to know a little more about me. Lets be in touch!

WORK

Creative Application Project
RespessLucy_optimized (1).jpg

The creative application project offered me the opportunity to employ strategic design skills to create interesting visuals, maximize on-screen and image optimization and include key details in a stylistic and appealing way.

Through a thoughtful redesign and revision process, I was able to utilize the skills I acquired through my photoshop certification to create the new advertisement on the top.

InDesign Mini Project

The InDesign Mini Project challenged me to employ my knowledge of the Indesign software to create a holiday graphic. For this project, I was able to practice visual hierarchy, make good type choices and practice merging graphics with type in a succinct and dynamic way.  I chose Easter because I was excited to work with a pastel color palette and experiment with different shapes that would add life to this advirtisement.

Beat Q&A

For the Beat Q&A, I had the opportunity to interview Allison McCullick, Director of Community Relations in the government relations office at UGA. She shared her insight into local initiatives, including a new collaborative after-school program between UGA students and the Clarke County School District. Read more about it here

Event Preview Story

This story allowed me to gain practical experience writing a story that highlights certain topics going to be covered in a non-biased, non promotional way. Furthermore, it forced me to think critically about what agenda items would be most impactful and newsworthy, which is a skill that will serve me well when pitching stories in the future. Read about it here.

News Conference Story

This story further refined my skills as a keen listener in a fast-moving environment. This event allowed me to practice honing in on breaking news and conveying all of the newsworthy aspects of the Future Land Use Plan in a journalistic style. Read more about it here.
